Laser Treatment for Toenail Fungus

Toenail fungus is one of those conditions where you feel like that is all people notice, so you keep your toes out of sight no matter what the weather is! Flip flop season is quickly approaching in Houston, so if you have fungal toenails, it’s time to treat it fast! Luckily at Houston Foot & Ankle Care, we have a laser treatment that can eradicate your fungus in a safe and effective way!

What’s nail fungus?

Nail fungus is usually caused by a dermatophyte fungus that multiplies and infects underneath or on the nail. It causes discolored, brittle, and foul-smelling nails and generally spreads gradually, so initial changes may go unnoticed.

Laser Treatment

Prior to laser treatment, typical treatments for fungal nails included topical creams, ointments, and oral antifungal medications. However, they usually result in long recovery times that aren’t as effective, and topical treatments can be very messy and ineffective for infections underneath the nail.

Houston Foot & Ankle Care has always been at the forefront of podiatric diagnostic and treatment technology, which is why we offer an FDA-approved PinPointe laser treatment that is fast, safe, and effective. The laser is designed to target the infection, whether it’s underneath the nail or on the surface, so many patients see clear nail growth starting soon after their first treatment. Each session takes only about 10 minutes, and there is no need to take or apply any medication!

If you suspect a toenail infection, or if you’ve tried many failed treatments, the PinPointe laser treatment is your solution to clearer, healthy nails! At Houston Foot & Ankle Care, board-certified podiatrist Dr. Gabriel Maislos is passionate about caring for your feet and is skilled in all types of podiatric treatments. Dr. Maislos specializes in foot and ankle surgeries, diabetic foot care, and can treat anything from bunionsto heel pain.
