Ultrasound is a medical imaging procedure that uses sound waves, much like a ship’s sonar or a bat’s echolocation. A transducer produces these sound waves and sends them into the body, “listening” for sound reflections and creating an image based on the results. Ultrasound is frequently used in podiatry to diagnose soft tissue injuries – those affecting the tendons, ligaments, and cartilage – throughout the foot and ankle.
