Biologic Therapy Q & A
What is biologic therapy?
- Pain relief
- Decrease and disperse inflammation
- Promote your body’s natural healing process
- Stimulate collagen production and cell regeneration
How does biologic therapy work to treat foot pain?
Dr. Maislos uses biologic therapy to augment and repair degenerated or damaged tissues. In an ideal environment, the human body has an innate, unique, and powerful ability to repair itself. Biologic therapy and regenerative medicine involve enhancing that healing process.
Platelet-rich plasma therapy
Dr. Maislos provides PRP therapy to enhance the healing of injured ligaments, muscles, tendons, and joints. He draws blood, usually from your arm, and separates and concentrates the platelets and growth factors in a centrifuge.
The growth factors become concentrated during this process and Dr. Maislos then combines the growth factors with your remaining blood and injects them into the injured area for treatment.
Effective in treating soft tissue damage of the ankle and the foot, Amnio therapy accelerates healing, modulates inflammation, and decreases scar tissue formation. It’s most commonly used by Dr. Maislos to treat conditions such as plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinitis.
Amnio therapy is comprised of placental membranes donated from consenting and healthy mothers who’ve had cesarean section deliveries. The tissue is harvested, cleaned, sterilized, and dehydrated before being micronized into an injectable solution. The cells are derived from the amniotic fluid in the amniotic sac.
This type of therapy is safe for everyone and includes 226 growth factors, cytokines, and enzyme inhibitors useful for healing when injected into the injured treatment area.
As soon as Dr. Maislos injects the growth factors and stem cells into your affected area, they begin to work immediately. Over the weeks following your treatment, your cells divide and grow and new tissues will form.
What podiatric conditions can be treated with biologic therapy?
Dr. Maislos uses regenerative medicine treatments for a range of podiatric conditions, including:
- Turf toe
- Muscle strains
- Plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendinitis
- Tendon or ligament tears
Dr. Maislos works with you to decide the best course of treatment to relieve your pain and improve your foot health.
